HITeducation.com™ is an educational curriculum incorporating a series of activities. This educational curriculum will be directed toward the learning needs of hematologists, emergency medicine physicians, and critical care nurses. To help patients achieve successful clinical outcomes, it is imperative that health care providers stay abreast of the latest evidence and best therapeutic management and practices surrounding HIT screening, diagnosis and recognition of its presentation.
Learning Objectives
- Identify risk factors associated with heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) within the critical care setting and apply this knowledge toward guideline adherence for accurate HIT screening
- Acknowledge expert assessment and current guidelines for accurate HIT diagnosis and utilize this information to support early recognition of its clinical presentation
- Demonstrate awareness of the need for alternative antithrombotic therapy in recognized HIT patients and assess the current clinical evidence surrounding other management options
- Utilize practical tools for raising HIT awareness and improving its management within the critical care setting, in accordance with current guidelines
